Buddha Purnima

This is the
most sacred day in the Buddhist calendar. The full moon
in the month of Vaisakh (April-May) has triple significance: it is the day of Buddha's birth, the day he attained enlightenment and
on his death, gained Nirvana .
Buddhists bathe and don only white clothes,
to mark this occasion. They worship at
their Viharas (monasteries), give alms to monks, and offer flowers and
fruit to the statue of Buddha. The Pipal tree, under which
Buddha gained enlightenment, is adorned with lamps, garlands and
coloured flags.
